Demand to Expedite Goldwins–Neelambur Flyover Project

A consumer organization has urged the Tamil Nadu government to take immediate steps to expedite the construction of the proposed high-level flyover between Goldwins and Neelambur.

In a petition sent to the Chief Minister, K. Kathirmathiyon, Secretary of the Coimbatore Consumer Cause organization, stated that they express their gratitude to the Tamil Nadu government for constructing a 10.1 km high-level flyover along Avinashi Road from Uppilipalayam to Goldwins at a cost of ₹1,791 crore.

The flyover has significantly reduced traffic congestion on Avinashi Road. However, at the G.D. Naidu flyover, only one of the two proposed entry ramps between Uppilipalayam and Goldwins has been opened. While the ramp near the New India Junction is operational, the ramp planned near the Anna Statue is yet to be constructed.

Due to the absence of this ramp, a large number of vehicles are forced to use the Uppilipalayam junction, while vehicles from another stretch must access the flyover only through the New India ramp. This has resulted in unavoidable traffic congestion at these junctions, preventing motorists from fully benefiting from the flyover.

Considering this situation, the organization has urged the government to immediately begin construction of the entry ramp near the Anna Statue.

Furthermore, the state government had earlier announced that, based on public and organizational demands, a 5 km long flyover from Goldwins to Neelambur would be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹600 crore. This extension would fulfill the objective of the G.D. Naidu flyover and provide a permanent solution to traffic congestion along the entire 15 km stretch of Avinashi Road.

Hence, the petition strongly urges the authorities to commence the Goldwins–Neelambur flyover project without delay.
