Free Cremation Service Launched at Modern Gas Crematorium in Coimbatore
A free cremation service has been launched at a modern gas crematorium in Ikkarai Boluvampatti, Coimbatore, benefiting residents of Thondamuthur region through a joint initiative by the Panchayat and Isha Foundation.
A free cremation service has been launched at the modern gas crematorium jointly operated by Ikkarai Boluvampatti Panchayat and the Isha Foundation in Coimbatore district. This initiative aims to benefit all residents of the Thondamuthur region.
People from more than five panchayats surrounding the Isha Yoga Center had earlier requested government authorities to establish a crematorium closer to their locality. Responding to this demand, the Isha Foundation constructed a modern gas crematorium with the approval of the Panchayat and in accordance with the guidelines and permissions from the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board and other concerned government departments.
The crematorium is now fully operational, and free cremation services have been introduced for the benefit of the public in the Thondamuthur region. The facility is being jointly managed by the Ikkarai Boluvampatti Panchayat and the Isha Foundation.
Under the guidance of Sadhguru, the Isha Foundation has been operating and maintaining crematoriums across Tamil Nadu since 2010 with the noble vision of providing dignified final rites and cremation services to all people. Currently, Isha manages around 30 crematoriums in various locations including Besant Nagar in Chennai, Coimbatore, Neyveli, Vellore, and Thanjavur.
The foundation has undertaken several initiatives at these crematoriums, such as creating green, park-like environments, planting and maintaining dense tree cover, providing proper walkways, ensuring hygienic bathing and restroom facilities, and building environmentally responsible infrastructure with government support to prevent ecological damage. These services are provided purely with a spirit of social service and without any commercial motive.
Additionally, in December last year, the Isha Foundation announced a special scheme to provide free cremation services for families below the poverty line, helping economically disadvantaged people perform dignified last rites for their loved ones without financial burden. The scheme was launched in the presence of Municipal Administration Minister K.N. Nehru.
