Tamil writer S. Tamilselvan has been awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award 2025 for his book “Tamil Short Story Traditions,” one of India’s most prestigious literary honors.
The prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award for 2025 has been announced for Tamil writer S. Tamilselvan.
He has been selected for the award for his book “Tamil Short Story Traditions” , which explores the evolution and contributions of short stories in Tamil literature.
The Sahitya Akademi Award is considered one of the highest literary honors in India. Each year, the Akademi selects outstanding works from 24 officially recognized Indian languages across categories such as poetry, short stories, novels, and literary criticism.
The announcement of the 2025 awards was originally scheduled to take place in December last year. However, the event was cancelled at the last moment due to delays in finalizing the award selections. The Sahitya Akademi has now officially released the list of award winners.
It is noteworthy that the Tamil Sahitya Akademi Award for 2024 was presented to A. R. Venkatachalapathy for his research work “Tirunelveli Uprising and V.O.C. in 1908”, a study focusing on historical events linked to V. O. Chidambaram Pillai and the freedom movement.
With this recognition, S. Tamilselvan joins the distinguished list of Tamil writers who have contributed significantly to the development of modern Tamil literature.
