Mallikarjun Kharge Raises LPG Cylinder Shortage Issue in Rajya Sabha

Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, raised concerns about the shortage of LPG cylinders in the country, stating that it is severely affecting poor and middle-class families.

Speaking during Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha, Kharge said that the shortage of LPG cylinders has begun to impact households as well as restaurants, hotels, and business establishments. He noted that the availability of LPG and price stability have become major concerns in several regions.

According to him, people in some areas are being forced to purchase cylinders at higher prices due to limited supply. He added that this situation is placing a heavy burden on economically weaker sections of society and urged the Central Government to take immediate steps to address the issue and explore alternative arrangements for LPG distribution.

Kharge also criticized the government’s claim that there is no shortage of LPG cylinders. He said that while the Union Petroleum Ministry stated in the Lok Sabha that there was no shortage, the ground situation appeared to contradict those statements.

Responding to the remarks, Union Minister J. P. Nadda pointed out that Zero Hour speeches must be completed within three minutes as per parliamentary rules. He emphasized that the rule applies to all members of the House.

Nadda also accused members of the Indian National Congress of provoking people who prefer peace in the country, leading to a brief exchange of remarks in the House.
