Matt Renshaw’s fighting effort went in vain as Zimbabwe stunned Australia with a brilliant 23-run victory in their T20 World Cup clash.
Zimbabwe’s bowlers delivered an outstanding performance, with Blessing Muzarabani taking four crucial wickets and Brad Evans claiming three to dismantle the Australian batting lineup.
The match, played in Colombo, saw Australia win the toss and opt to bowl first. Batting first, Zimbabwe posted a strong total of 169/2 in their 20 overs.
Chasing 170, Australia were bowled out for 146 in 19.3 overs. Matt Renshaw fought a lone battle, scoring 65 runs, but received little support from the other end. Tim David and Cameron Green were dismissed for ducks, putting Australia under pressure.
This victory is another historic moment for Zimbabwe, recalling their famous win over Australia in the 2007 World Cup.
