V.R. Muthu, the chairman of the popular Idhayam oil brand and a well-known industrialist, passed away on March 4 due to health-related issues. He was 72 years old.

In a statement posted on the Idhayam Mantra X (formerly Twitter) platform, the company expressed deep sorrow over his demise. The statement read, “We are deeply saddened to share that our beloved chairman, V.R. Muthu, has passed away. His leadership and guidance will forever remain in our hearts. Om Shanti.”

Who Was V.R. Muthu?

Born on October 6, 1953, in Virudhunagar, V.R. Muthu played a major role in transforming the Idhayam oil brand into a globally recognized name.

In 1986, he launched the Idhayam sesame oil brand along with his father. At that time, sesame oil was largely sold as loose oil without branding. Their initiative helped establish Idhayam as one of the most trusted packaged sesame oil brands in India.

Under his leadership, the Idhayam Group expanded beyond sesame oil and introduced other cooking oil varieties, including the Mantra groundnut oil brand. The company eventually grew to export its products to more than 50 countries worldwide.

Virudhunagar Mourns His Loss

Beyond being a successful businessman, V.R. Muthu was also actively involved in social service. He served as a Rotary Governor and was a trustee of several educational institutions, contributing significantly to social and community development.

His passing has brought deep sorrow not only to the people of Virudhunagar but also to the entire state of Tamil Nadu. Many political leaders, business figures, and members of the public have expressed their condolences over his demise.
