The Madras High Court has denied permission for the installation of a 184-foot-tall Murugan statue at Marudhamalai, which was proposed at an estimated cost of ₹110 crore.
The court ruled that the project could not be approved due to concerns over its potential impact on the environment. The proposed statue, planned near the popular hill temple area, had drawn attention and debate over ecological preservation and heritage conservation.
Following the court’s order, the authorities have been directed to ensure that environmental safeguards are prioritized in the region, while further steps regarding the project remain on hold.
