Indian Stock Market Ends Higher for Second Day; Sensex, Nifty Gain on Banking and IT Stocks
The Indian stock market closed higher for the second straight session, led by gains in banking, IT, and capital goods stocks, with Sensex rising 173 points and Nifty ending above 25,700.
The Indian stock market ended higher for the second consecutive day, supported by gains in banking, IT, and capital goods stocks.
In today’s trading session, both the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty closed in positive territory. The Sensex touched an intraday high of 83,598 points and a low of 82,987.43 points. By the end of the session, the Sensex rose 173.81 points to close at 83,450.96, while the Nifty 50 gained 42.65 points to settle at 25,725.40.
On the Sensex, shares of ITC, Bharat Electronics Limited, Larsen & Toubro, Infosys, Asian Paints, Titan, Adani Ports, HCL Technologies, Sun Pharmaceuticals, Maruti Suzuki India, IndiGo, State Bank of India, and Tech Mahindra advanced. Meanwhile, shares of Eternal, Tata Steel, Trent, Reliance Industries, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Finserv, Axis Bank, Bharti Airtel, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Hindustan Unilever declined.
On the Nifty, stocks such as Adani Enterprises, ITC, Bharat Electronics, Infosys, and L&T gained, while Eternal, Trent, Hindalco Industries, Reliance Industries, and Tata Steel fell.
Sector-wise, the banking index rose 2%, the IT index gained 1%, the media index increased 0.6%, and the auto index climbed 0.5%. However, the metal index fell 1%, and the real estate index slipped 0.3%.
The Nifty Midcap index rose 0.49%, while the Smallcap index gained 0.26%.
In stock-specific action, Ola Electric Mobility shares plunged to a record low following a downgrade by Citigroup. Cochin Shipyard shares rose 3.7% after securing a ₹5,000 crore order. Infosys shares gained 2% after announcing collaboration with Anthropic.
More than 140 stocks, including Brainbees Solutions, Cello World, Ola Electric, Clean Science, Abbott India, C.E. Info Systems, Cohance Life, Blue Jet, Firstsource Solutions, and Newgen Software, hit their 52-week lows today.
Meanwhile, over 110 stocks, including Union Bank of India, Force Motors, Bank of India, Graphite India, Larsen & Toubro, SBI, Lupin, Max Financial, Astral, Kirloskar Oil, Indus Towers, and Jindal Steel, touched their 52-week highs.
Global Brent crude oil prices fell 0.79% to $68.13 per barrel.
