IE(I) Coimbatore commemorates Regional Language Promotion Day at CIT

The Institution of Engineers(India) {IE(I)}, Coimbatore Local Centre in association with the Department of Civil Engineering, Coimbatore Institute of Technology, (CIT) Coimbatore organised a technical programme on Wednesday, 25 February 2026 at Seminar Hall, CIT. The programme was a part of IE(I) initiative to conduct technical programmes in regional languages. The programme was fully conducted in Tamil to emphasise the importance of technical education in different languages. 

Dr J Pradeep Kumar, Honorary Secretary, IEI Coimbatore Local Centre welcomed the gathering of civil engineers and students. He briefed about the Regional Language Promotion Day observed by IE(I). Dr R Satyanarayan Sridhar, Professor and Head, Department of Civil Engineering, Coimbatore College of Technology addressed the gathering reinforcing the importance of creating technical literature in Tamil language. Dr M Kaarthik, Committee Member, IEI Coimbatore Local Centre and Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Coimbatore College of Technology thanked the gathering. 

The technical lecture was delivered by the guest speaker Er P Praveen Kumar, Managing Partner, SPI Infra, Coimbatore. He delivered a wonderful lecture titled Role of Concrete in Building Sustainability” translating to “கட்டிட நிலைத்தன்மையில் கற்காரையின் பங்கு" in Tamil. Er.P.Praveen Kumar elaborated on the physical and mechanical properties of traditional building materials used for preparation of concrete, highlighting their durability, eco-friendliness, and applications in modern construction. He effectively illustrated, with practical examples, how traditional knowledge and modern engineering methods can be combined to create sustainable buildings. The lecture encouraged engineers to integrate time-tested construction practices with contemporary design principles for long-term sustainability and resilience. His correlation of technical terms in English with the apt words in Tamil was the highlight of the programme. The students and engineers were appreciative of the conduct of the technical lecture in Tamil and sought more such programmes.
