Indian para badminton star Pramod Bhagat extended his world record by winning his sixth gold medal at the BWF Para World Championships held in Bahrain.

Bhagat, a 37-year-old para badminton player from Bihar, defeated Indonesia’s Muhammad Ali Imran in the SL3 category final with a convincing score of 21-12, 21-18.

This marked Bhagat’s sixth gold medal in the World Championships (fourth consecutive) and his eighth overall gold, including six in singles and two in doubles, creating history in para badminton.

Earlier, Bhagat had also won a gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics, further cementing his legacy.

Comeback After Suspension

Pramod Bhagat had faced an 18-month suspension imposed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport for missing a doping test, which ruled him out of the Paris Paralympics. The ban lasted until September 1, 2025.

Following the setback, Bhagat made a strong comeback, winning gold again and inspiring many. Earlier in January, after returning from suspension, he secured double gold at the Egypt Para Badminton tournament.
