The traditional Tamil harvest festival Pongal was celebrated in a unique spirit of religious harmony at Perur Tamil College campus in Coimbatore on Saturday. The event, organized as “Samathuva Pongal” (Equality Pongal), aimed to promote unity beyond religion and caste.

This year marked the 16th edition of the festival conducted by the Interfaith Harmony Movement. The event was attended by Perur Adheenam Santhalinga Marudhasala Adigalar and Mohamed Rabi, President of the Interfaith Harmony Movement, along with people from various religious backgrounds.

As a symbol of unity, sugarcane and banana plants were placed, and Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, and people from other faiths jointly prepared Pongal by adding rice, jaggery, and milk into a common pot. The celebration continued with traditional dances, music, and festive cheering. A fun-filled pot-breaking competition was also held.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohamed Rabi said,
"People across the country should celebrate festivals in the spirit of unity, without caste or religious differences. In a nation that thrives on diversity and pluralistic culture, religious harmony is what allows humanity to flourish."
