Seven fishermen from Tamil Nadu were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on Wednesday for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) while fishing at sea.
The fishermen had ventured into the sea from Vedaranyam when they were intercepted and taken into custody by Sri Lankan naval personnel. According to reports, the fishermen are currently being detained at the Kankesanthurai naval camp, where they are being questioned.
The incident has once again raised concerns among fishing communities in Tamil Nadu, who frequently face such arrests while fishing in traditional waters. Further details regarding their release and diplomatic intervention are awaited.
