"CAUTION - The Mantra for Cancer Prevention" discussed at ILS

The Institute of Liberal Studies, Coimbatore conducted its Session 57 Proceedings 38 from 04.00 PM to 06.00 PM at Thulasi Pharmacy, RS Puram on Sunday, 22 February 2026. Mr.M.Ramakrishnan, Chairperson, Institute of Liberal Studies welcomed the gathering and chaired the Minute a Member programme where each of the 18 members shared their wisdom in a minute. Following the Minute a Member Programme and a tea break, Mr.M.Prasath, Director, Institute of Liberal Studies delivered a lecture titled "Cancer Prevention - What Every Family should Know"

Mr.M.Prasath started by establishing the need to be more vigilant against Cancer. He quoted recent cancer statistics which was startling to those who were not aware of it already. He impressed upon the members that given our changing life styles and medical technologies, every individual should be well informed about cancer. He then provided an acronym CAUTION through which he explained how every individual and family can check the possibility of cancer. C for "Change in bowel habits", A  for "A sore that doesn’t heal", U for "Unusual bleeding", T for "Thickening or lump", I for "Indigestion", O for "Obvious change in wart/mole" and N for "Nagging cough". From day to day observations, an individual can check for symptoms for cancer. He then outlined clearly measures to prevent cancer because prevention is always better than cure. He closed the lecture with the quote "The best protection against cancer is not fear — it is awareness, prevention, and timely action"
