Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin today (February 18, 2026) inaugurated the name boards of newly renamed roads in Chennai through video conferencing from the Secretariat. The roads have been named in honor of legendary Tamil playback singer Trichy Loganathan, renowned singer Sirkazhi Govindarajan, and iconic music composer “Mellisai Mannar” M.S. Viswanathan.
Trichy Loganathan Street
In recognition of the artistic contributions of veteran Tamil playback singer Trichy Loganathan, the Norton 3rd Street in Mandavelipakkam, where he once lived, has been renamed “Trichy Loganathan Street.” Loganathan was a patriotic singer who performed in several stage events against British rule, had close associations with leaders like C.N. Annadurai and M. Karunanidhi, received the Kalaimamani award from the Tamil Nadu government, and sang more than 2,000 film songs.
Sirkazhi Govindarajan Road
To honor the legacy of Padma Shri awardee and celebrated Tamil singer Sirkazhi Govindarajan, East Circular Road in Mandavelipakkam, where he resided, has been renamed “Sirkazhi Govindarajan Road.” He was known for his rich voice and played a major role in promoting Tamil classical and film music.
M.S. Viswanathan Road
In tribute to legendary composer “Mellisai Mannar” M.S. Viswanathan, Demonte Road, where he lived, has been renamed “M.S. Viswanathan Road.” Over seven decades, he entertained South Indian audiences with his timeless music and composed the Tamil Thai Vazhthu, which continues to be played in government and educational institutions since 1970.
The event was attended by Municipal Administration Minister K.N. Nehru, Chennai Mayor R. Priya, MLA T. Velu, Deputy Mayor M. Mahesh Kumar, Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, senior officials, and family members of Trichy Loganathan, Sirkazhi Govindarajan, and M.S. Viswanathan.
