5.4 Magnitude Earthquake in Bangladesh; Tremors Felt in Kolkata and Parts of India
A 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck near Dhaka, Bangladesh, with tremors felt in Kolkata and other parts of eastern India. No major damage has been reported so far.
A 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck Bangladesh on Friday (February 27), with tremors felt in parts of eastern India, including Kolkata in West Bengal.
According to reports, the quake occurred around 1:30 PM approximately 188 kilometers from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. There have been no immediate reports of major damage or casualties.
However, residents in Kolkata and surrounding areas reported noticeable tremors. In some parts of the city, people stepped out of their homes and gathered on the streets as a precautionary measure.
Earlier in the day, a mild earthquake measuring 2.7 on the Richter scale was recorded in Sikkim, located near West Bengal in northeast India. With repeated seismic activity in the region, concerns have grown among residents.
It may be recalled that a 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck Bangladesh on November 21 last year, resulting in the deaths of nine people due to building collapses. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation following the latest tremors.
