India Women Clinch T20 Series 2-1 Against Australia with 17-Run Win at Adelaide

The Indian women’s cricket team secured the three-match AUS-W vs IND-W T20 2026 series with a 17-run victory over Australia in the third and final match at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday.

India had won the opening game of the series by 21 runs via the DLS method in a rain-affected contest. After losing the second match in Canberra, the visitors bounced back strongly in the decider to seal the series 2-1 — marking only their second-ever T20 series win over Australia, the previous one coming in 2016.

Mandhana Leads with the Bat

Smriti Mandhana played a brilliant knock of 82 off 55 balls to anchor India’s innings and help them post a competitive total of 176/6 in 20 overs.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, India lost opener Shafali Verma early in the third over. However, Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues steadied the innings with a superb 121-run partnership for the second wicket.

The duo capitalized on the powerplay, taking India to 54/1 after six overs. Mandhana reached her half-century in 38 balls with a six and continued to attack before being dismissed in the 17th over. Rodrigues also brought up her fifty off 41 deliveries, while Richa Ghosh provided late momentum with a quick cameo.

Australia fought back in the final overs, taking four wickets in the last two overs to restrict India’s late acceleration.

India’s Bowlers Seal the Win

Chasing 177, Australia struggled early as Shreyanka Patil and Renuka Singh struck inside the first four overs, dismissing Georgia Voll, Beth Mooney, and Ellyse Perry.

Phoebe Litchfield and Ashleigh Gardner attempted to rebuild, but regular wickets kept Australia under pressure. Gardner scored a fighting 57 and brought up her fifty in the 16th over before being dismissed.

India’s disciplined bowling in the death overs ensured Australia finished at 159/9 in 20 overs. Shreyanka Patil (3/22) and Shree Charani (3/32) were the standout performers with the ball.

With this victory, India Women clinched the series 2-1 and registered a historic triumph against Australia on their home soil.
